New website - The Salk Family

Yesterday’s edition of The Sentinel shed some light on Pietro Salk’s sudden coma: he collapsed at his home on Monday night, his key sending off a warning to the emergency services minutes before his wife returned to find him “gasping for air” in his office. He remained in the hospital in a state of “neurological crisis” showing few signs of brain activity for nearly two days and emerged on Wednesday morning only to spend a few hours obsessively working on his key - until ceasing back into a coma. His wife, Sylvia, transferred the files off his key onto our net via her website (woo, new website!).

The files comprise a multi-level maze puzzle with incoherent sentences dispersed in-between levels. You can download the zipped files here, but beware that the application is underdeveloped and hard to open (especially if you are a PC user). Read this thread for tips and spoilers and keep in mind that an improved version should become available soon (ahem).

Interview: Aiko Entrescore

The Sentinel interviewed Aiko Entrescore, a puzzle scribe from the Academy’s Cube Retrieval team. Aiko talks about her work, Zen, and, most importantly, the fact that her key-integrated sculpture was on display at the Academy the night the Cube was stolen (you may remember that the thieves managed to disable parts of the Academy’s security systems in order to get past the alarms).

In other news, the MindCandy team has arrived to the E3 show in Los Angeles. You can follow their PerplexCity exhibition here.

Ruth Coralhouse’ last wish

Recently passed Earthologist Ruth Coralhouse left a clause in her will - PCL45 million to go to the Academy and the Centre for Reality Research for the purposes of developing a “method for transporting physical matter between Perplex City and Earth, with the aim that her ashes be transported to Greece and scattered over the Mediterranean Ocean on Earth.” So far this has been met with various objections by both the Academy and Centre for Reality Research officials.

As promised, The Sentinel opened its “View from Earth” column. Hannah’s article about the pitfalls of excessive coverage of celebrity culture by the media was the first one published in the column (May 6th).

Minor update at the Sentinel today: members of Perplex City’s top-selling band, Roll for Damage, are recording a new album, going through high-profile break-ups, and heading for drug rehab.
